Vythiri Resort

We are at Vythiri Resort in Kerala. It is an ecotourist resort recommended to us by Satya. It is a remnant of a rainforest, surrounded by tea plantation. The driveway is 3.5 clicks long of rock road up the side of a mountain. Our driver only bottomed out a couple of times.

This morning we took a guided hike through the rainforest. I think Kathy was most fascinated by me getting a number of leaches in my shoes. They are little and don't carry any diseases. They just made my socks and legs bloody. We saw lots of plants but very few butterflies, mostly because of the recent rain. There were a couple of impressive tree houses and a nice waterfall.

There are some interesting parallels between here and Mamfe (my Cameroonian home in Peace Corps days). The fruit is tremendously sweet. The pineapple is currently ripe. You just don't get fruit like this in the states. Mamfe had several suspension foot bridges. Our resort has a rope and wood bridge across the creek that leads to the restaurant. There is just a general feeling of being in a very humid rainforest. I have even said franc (for Central African Franc) several times, rather than rupee.

We leave here by car tomorrow to catch a train from Calicut to Cochin.

Dear,
Really nice to read about the vythiri experience.

Just today morning at 3 am I came back from the Vythiri but we stayed at Blue Giner resort which is also virgin and situated in the lap of Nature. Its cottages are amazing...

but at vythiri we went to conducted outbound training for 10 software personnels from southeast countries / US and 22 from India first time.

First time conducted any adventure based outbound training in Vythiri area.

The details are as follows:

a) Rappelling on rock face -- 100 feet.

b) Flying fox on the strem valley.

c) Valley crossing on wild waterfall.

d) Commqndo walk / Rope beam balance walk and Monkey crawling obstacles within the resort.

e) Team building games and Treasue hunt.

It was a Greaat Experience and vythiri area is really wild/ unique and most beautiful.
